There will come soft rains by Ray Bradbury shows how human life could be on the planet Venus focusing on the kids on school. This story shows how feelings such as jealousy and social issues like bullying can affect people even on Venus. This futuristic story reflects aspects that could be possible if life was sustained on Venus.
The setting on which this story takes place, is on Venus. To be specific on a school. This can be proven by this quotation “and this was the way life was forever on the planet Venus, and this was the schoolroom of the children and of the rocketmen and women who had come to a rainy world to set up a civilization and live out their live’’ this is a science fiction element now that until we know, the planet is the only planet that has the ability to maintain human life. A really interesting characteristic of this planet is that it is always raining and only once every 7 years it stops according to the following phrase “ it had been raining for seven years, thousands upon thousands of days compounded and filled from one end to another with rain” this is also another science fiction element because we don’t know much about Venus and we can’t confirm that it rains exactly all the time and that each 7 years the sun comes out for an hour.
Some of the narrative techniques that I saw in this book were both description and dialogue. “ she knew they thought they remembered warmness, like a blushing in the face, in the arms, and trembling hands” this is an example of the description inside the story, the balance of description keeps the reader engaged now that it gives it enough detail for the reader to feel connected with it. “ aw you didn’t write that” protested one of the boys “ yes I did” said Margot. When there is dialogue it helps understand more the story because there is interaction between them.
The story “ all summer in a day” shows a possibility of how life would be on Venus focusing more on the kids. According to the story, in Venus it rains everyday and only every seven years the sun goes up just for an hour. The description and dialogue are two narrative techniques used on the texts that in my opinion make it more interesting and easier to follow. The description is balanced so it gives information and keeps the reader engaged. The dialogue in the story provides us more information of the characters because it shows the way they interact with each other. In my opinion this short story even if it was kind of sad and gloomy, it was a really interesting one to read.
